Would You Survive?

posted Tuesday, January 12, 2010 - 08:22
On the show this morning we decided to test our knowledge of wilderness survival based on an article I read in The National Georgraphic.  Here are the 10 trivia questions I asked Drew, Erin and Scooter....find out how they did at the bottom.

1. A person can survive three weeks without food - true or false? True

2. A person can survive three days without water - true or false? True

3. If a plant smells like peaches it's safe to eat - true or false? False

4. White and yellow berries are poisonous 90 percent of the time - true or false?  True

5. Red berries are almost always safe to eat - true or false?  False (only safe 50 percent of the time)

6. The best source of clean water is a moving stream - true or false? False (a spring is the best source)

7. Cooked instects are a good source of protein - generally the ones with eight legs or less are safe to eat...true or false? False (six legs or less)

8. If you are lost in the wilderness it's best to stay put and wait for help, but if  you can't you're next best course of action is to leave a trail and find a high vantage point - true or false? False (best course is to follow a waterway downstream to find a populated area)

9. If lost in the wilderness, your priority should be shelter, than water, than food - true or false? True

10. The best wood for maintaining a fire is dead wood pulled off a standing tree - true or false? True

And the results.....after the 10 questions, Drew got three points, Erin six and Scooter six.  Sadly as I report this....Erin and Scooter have eaten Drew.
