A prominent group of Canadian actors, writers and politicians is asking Prime Minister Stephen Harper to change the name of Victoria Day. Members of the group include author Margaret Atwood, Green Party leader Elizabeth May, and actor Gordon Pinsent. They have signed an online petition to rename this Monday’s public holiday “Victoria and First Peoples Day.” Peter Keleghan, who is an actor and spokesman for the group, says the name would provide a chance to honour both the Crown and the indigenous peoples of Canada. Each year on June 21 National Aboriginal Day is celebrated but it is not recognized as a national holiday. However Bruce Hallsor who is with the Victoria chapter of the Monarchist League is opposed. “We do a disservice to our history when we erase it and forget and I think we actually need to emphasize our ...

FRESH EATS: Vancouver Farmers Markets

Like fresh food? An Australian billionaire plans to recreate the legendary ship, and charge $1 million for a first-class cabin when his replica Titanic II re-traces the original 1912 route of the great ship that went down. The new ship will be built in China and its maiden voyage is scheduled for late 2016. The route will take the ship from England's Southampton to New York's West Side. Its furnishings, said its financier Clive Palmer, will include a Turkish bath (just like on the original) and the stunning grand staircase which Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet descended in the 1997 James Cameron movie. It will also have some things the original didn't: air-conditioning and enough lifeboats.
Is it "unsinkable?" Unthinkable, Palmer said at a press conference in New York Tuesday. "Anything will sink if you put a hole in it," he said. At first glance it looks like it's made of stone, but this may be one of the greenest buildings you've seen in your life.
The Morrow Royal Pavilion in Henderson, Nevada, is made mostly out of recycled glass collected from casinos and hotels on the Las Vegas strip. "It was more than just beer bottles; it was every type of glass that comes from the Las Vegas strip hotels," Carol Morrow, president of Realm of Design, told Yahoo! Shine in an interview.
Her husband, Scott McComb, spent years developing a way to combine crushed, recycled glass with Fly Ash, a by-product from coal-fired power plants. The result is GreenStone, a concrete substitute that acts like stone, can be used in any number of ways, and is eco-friendly as well.
It took over 500,000 glass beer ...

HONEY BADGER: Face Behind the Viral Video Superstar Revealed!!

The fear of Friday the 13th is called friggatriskaidekaphobia (Frigga being the name of the Norse goddess for whom "Friday" is named and triskaidekaphobia meaning fear of the number thirteen), or paraskevidekatriaphobia a concatenation of the Greek words Paraskeví (meaning "Friday"), and dekatreís (meaning "thirteen") attached to phobía (meaning "fear"). Watch out for black cats, walking under ladders, or breaking mirrors - if you are superstitious. There are three Friday 13ths in the year 2012. Friday, January 13th, Friday, April 13th, Friday, July 13th, 2012 Taylor Swift was born on the 13th and finds the number to be quite lucky for her.
