Based in Long Beach, California, the fairly obscure Rhino 39
formed in 1977 in the wake of such bands as the MC5
and the Stooges
, never quite gathering sufficient backing to break out of the local circuit, despite a mid-'80s deal with Triple X Records. The band worked into the late '70s and '80s, chronicled by the 1979 single "Xerox," and "Marry It" on the 1981 Bemis Brain Hell Comes to Your House, Vol. 1 compilation, but vanished quietly in the wake of the new wave and power pop bands.
