Album Review

Manteca's 2003 compilation The Very Best of Tania Maria is a 12-track collection of highlights from Tânia Maria Concord Recordings. This is roughly evenly split between cuts from the '80s and recordings from the 2000s, but instead of seeming off-kilter, this large span of time helps highlight the consistency within her work, as it all showcases what a fine singer she is. There may be more focused compilations of her work available elsewhere, but this is a fine sampler, bearing good annotation from Chris Ingham, that does function as a good introduction to her sound.
