Album Review

Saxophonist Leonardo Pedersen's Jazzkapel is a hot 11-piece swing band from Europe. During 1976-1977 they were teamed on record for separate sessions with trumpeter Harry Edison, tenor saxophonist Eddie Davis, and the eccentric singer Richard Boone (who left his trombone at home for the date). There are four songs apiece with Edison and Boone on this CD, plus seven with Davis. Because the Jazzkapel is a riffing swing group that can emulate Count Basie's Orchestra, these matchups work quite well. Highlights include "Lady Be Good," "Did You See Her Tonight," "Doodlin'," "Tickle Toe," and "One O'Clock Jump."
