A sequel to Shades of Today
continues Pat Williams
' quiet, respectable version of the mod brass sound of the late '60s. He has an incredible array of great jazz horn men (not to mention pianist Dick Hyman
) on hand playing arranged pop. "Recado Bossa Nova," "Chicken Feathers," and "I Say a Little Prayer" are among the livelier numbers. Tacked onto the end of the album -- perhaps because they stray too deeply into Herb Alpert
's "Mexicali brass" territory -- are the upbeat and camp "What've You Got to Lose?" and "Mexican Breakfast."
