Album Review

This EP collection of Ubu's early singles on their own indie label Hearthan is remarkable. This is the sound of Ubu developing from its earliest incarnation with Peter Laughner and Tim Wright to the "original" band that would record The Modern Dance, Dub Housing, and New Picnic Time. Dark and ominous, this contains the brilliant "30 Seconds Over Tokyo" and the brooding "Heart of Darkness." Perhaps not as jaw-droppingly amazing as their first few albums, Datapanik is still an important release in the Ubu catalog.
