The soundtrack to Mike Barker's post-indie thriller
Best Laid Plans (starring Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, and Allesandro Nivola) has selections from the stylish score by
Craig Armstrong, plus savvy, similarly atmospheric selections from
Mazzy Star,
Neneh Cherry,
Eagle-Eye Cherry, Gomez, and
Massive Attack, along with a
Patsy Cline song, presumably included to remind you that, yes, the film is indeed set in the American South, even if the soundtrack is decidedly Euro-centric. The album doesn't always hold together, since the two halves don't always meet, but Armstrong's score is evocative and the songs are good on their own terms, making
Best Laid Plans a suitably enjoyable souvenir for fans of the film.
