Album Review

I'm Bout It, the soundtrack to Masta P's self-produced and self-financed film of the same name, is a way to showcase P's production skills, as well as the roster of his No Limit label. The album illustrates No Limit's strengths and weaknesses in equal measures. It shows that they are quite adept at crafting solid G-funk and gangsta rap knockoffs, but they also fall prey to the genre's worst excesses, wallowing in cartoonish sex and violence. In that sense, I'm Bout It works well as an introduction to Masta P and No Limit, but the fact is, if you're not already interested in this level of hardcore gangsta rap and bass party music, this silly, over-the-top collection won't change your mind.
