Album Review

Hi-Tech/No Crime: Yellow Magic Orchestra Reconstructed is an excellent tribute to the groundbreaking Japanese electronic band the Yellow Magic Orchestra. A host of contemporary ambient and techno artists -- including the Orb, Orbital, 808 State, Altern 8, Mark Gamble and Graham Massey -- have remixed the original tracks, expanding them into evocative new territory. These new versions may not surpass the originals, but they arguably match them, demonstrating that not only were these artists influenced by Yellow Magic Orchestra, but they assimilated what they learned and made it into something of their own.
