This brief ten-song set features some of songwriter, singer, guitarist, producer, and arranger Curtis Mayfield's signature post-Impressions singles, including "Freddie's Dead," "Superfly," "Pusherman," and the still eerily dead-on "Future Shock." There's more to Mayfield's musical story, of course, since his early group the Impressions was one of the most important soul groups in pop history, but his solo years as a wise, mellow funkmeister brought Mayfield even more commercial success than the group did. Taken together, the two phases of Mayfield's legacy add up to a major artist who never let his musical or political vision waver.
