Album Review

This set combines on a single disc two Muddy Waters LPs originally released by Chess Records in 1971. The first, They Call Me Muddy Waters, was in itself an anthology, consisting of then-unissued tracks recorded between 1951 and 1967, and arranged chronologically to present a sort of alternative history of the artist who laid the foundation for modern electric blues. The second was a fine live set cobbled together from two shows Waters did in June of 1971 in Chicago. Together, these two albums make for a wonderful portrait of Waters throughout three decades at Chess Records.
