Nanny McPhee Returns is the sequel to the 2006 family hit Nanny McPhee, and follows the misadventures of a magical nanny of the same name (played by Academy Award winner Emma Thompson). Composer James Newton Howard, who takes the reins from Patrick Doyle, is no stranger to fairy tales (The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep, The Last Airbender), and his fine work here pays homage to Doyle’s harpsichord-heavy first installment, while carving out its own enchanting themes with pleasing results.
