The inventive soprano saxophonist
Jane Ira Bloom performs a set of duets with the adaptable and complementary pianist
Fred Hersch. They play two originals apiece (including
Hersch's "Janeology"), collaborate on "Inside," and perform a song apiece by
Wayne Shorter ("Miyako") and
Alec Wilder. The improvisations are generally melodic but unpredictable, coherent but fairly free. Worth several listens.
