The original edition of
A Party with Betty Comden & Adolph Green offers the duo near the prime of their careers, reveling in the still-current glow of their 15 years of success. As such, it has an energy that the 1977 revival didn't quite match, if not necessarily the panache of the latter production. It has been reissued on CD by Angel Records, but that format sacrifices the extra effort that Capitol Records put into the original release, complete with a handsome gatefold sleeve that was unusual in its time, and shows how prominently
Comden and
Green registered in the popular culture of the day.
