Kelly Clarkson definitely doesn’t want to be a judge on American Idol, but that isn’t stopping her from volunteering her friend.

The American Idol alumni told US Weekly that judging isn’t exactly her style and she prefers a mentoring role.

"I don't want to be a judge. Mentor is more my style," she said. "And not just mentoring, getting to be a part of the song with them, getting them amped up -- from our rehearsals to stage, it's so exciting being onstage. It's fun!"

Clarkson does think that the 2005 winner, Carrie Underwood, would be the perfect judge.

"She would! Didn't she major in journalism or something?" Underwood graduated from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla. in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications with an emphasis in journalism.

But despite her education, the 29-year-old country singer apparently has a mean poker face.

"And she can have that face . . . that bluff face! She can put that on! She would be good."
