BYOB? Nope BYOW

BYOW is 'Bring Your Own Wine' and that's exactly what the BC government is considering. Many other provinces allow residents to bring their own wine to restaurants instead of buying a bottle off the menu. Of course there is a fee involved (corkage fee) that you would pay to have them open the bottle for you in the restaurant.

This is suppose to encourage people to go out to local restaurants more often, you save money and the restaurant makes money for opening your bottle of wine. The average corkage fee is about $10-$15 per bottle in Canada.

Should we join Nova Scotia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec or do you think this is a service you would not use?

Yes, that would be a great idea and I'm all for Vancouver restaurants allowing us to bring our own wine. I think the corkage fee would have to be under $10 to make me bring my own, but I would definitely welcome this change.
