I'm a Yo-Yo!!!!
Yeah, I'll admit it. I've been a Yo-Yo dieter this year. I've lost a lot of weight, and gained some back. I'm back at it, and plan to lose again.
In the past, people have argued that Yo-Yo dieting is BAD, BAD, BAD. Some people have implied that it's even better NOT to diet at all, than to Yo-Yo.
Well this summer, research came out that (sort-of) disputed that: Scientists at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, the University of Washington and other US institutions studied a group of overweight and obese postmenopausal women with a history of repetitive "weight cycling" (also known as yo-yo dieting). It looked at whether they were at a disadvantage compared with those without a history of weight cycling when it came to losing weight. They found that women considered weight cyclers were not at a disadvantage for weight loss.
The researchers DID NOT find that yo-yo diets are NOT bad for you. If anything the study found that women with a history of yo-yo dieting tended to be heavier than women who didn’t yo-yo diet. BUT, what the researchers did find was that yo-yo diets were not as harmful as previously thought.
So, that's the scientific stuff, but if you're someone who's a Yo-Yo dieter, you probably know all this intuitively. Obviously, it would be better to lose weight and keep it off, but if you gain some weight back….DON'T GIVE UP!!! Keep trying to be healthier...that's never bad for you.
I'm back seeing Dr. Polo this September, and doing the 'Pound A Day' diet. I'm feeling GREAT...and yes, the pounds are DROPPING! (again)
Hope you are healthy and happy, too!
